This work begins with a brushstroke using "the dirty water from the day before." From that first ochre wash, I decided I wanted to develop a painting with spaces, without much paint, arbitrating over the emerging stains rather than directing them. For this reason, I paint with a piece of cardboard and a piece of fiberglass mesh, creating different types of marks that I can't control, but which I can bring together to create a cohesive whole.
I include a phrase from a verse by Luís García Montero that defines my feelings while doing this work.
