I imagine the ancients of 40,000 years ago, nomads, traveling from place to place looking for good hunting and locating caves and shelters in the mountains where they could take refuge. Even as nomads and wanderers, they had the need to turn their living space into a home, into the space of the community, into their sacred place.
They painted the walls and used the rock reliefs to shape their flat paintings.
The ancients painted for many reasons, some of them enigmatic and unknown to us; sometimes they painted in a schematic and abstract way.
In this work, I transferred the paint to the canvas using a piece of cardboard, discovering shapes and textures that remind me of paintings on stone. Clusters, traces, and splashes construct a painting reminiscent of the Ancients.
